What are laser peels?
Laser peels are an alternative to chemical peels, and rely on the use of laser light to improve the appearance of skin or treat minor facial flaws by removing layers of skin. Carbon dioxide lasers are commonly used in peels. This type of laser is used to treat wrinkles, scars, benign lesions, and other skin conditions.
Traditional chemical peels use fruit acids or chemicals with varying levels of intensity to strip the top layers of skin. Laser treatments, on the other hand, direct short, concentrated, pulsating beams of light at skin to treat your imperfections.
Am I a candidate?
Laser peels can be used to treat:
- Acne scars
- Age spots
- Facial wrinkles
- Facial scars
- Droopy eyelids
- Aging skin
- Sun-damaged skin
Are laser peels painful?
Medication is often given to help our patients relax during the procedure and to reduce pain. Topical anesthetics are used to numb small treatment areas. For larger treatments, a nerve block or conscious sedation may be utilized.
What can I expect after my peel?
The treated areas usually are dressed for healing after the procedure. Patients will be required to soak, apply ointment and re-dress the treatment area daily. Healing takes three to 10 days, depending on the depth of the peel and type of laser used.
