What causes age spots?

When you lie out in the sun or go to a tanning bed, your skin becomes more tan thanks to melanin. When exposed to frequent UV rays over a long period of time, higher concentrations of melanin will group, and age spots will start to pop up. Wearing sunscreen can help to limit these spots, but it cannot prevent them from developing.
